DIY Backyard Movie Night

Finding new and creative at-home activities seems to be the theme this summer. While our family is all too familiar with Friday movie nights, we decided to give it a little upgrade in the backyard. All the fun of the drive-in, with all the comforts of home. We set up a movie projector, that has built-in streaming capabilities with no cords required. We used a white twin sheet that we hung up on the side of our house as the screen, and of course added some cafe lights for ambiance. The hardest part was deciding (agreeing) on what movie to watch. Almost any backyard can become an impromptu theatre with just a couple of things.

We blew up a double sized air mattress for maximum lounge-ability, and piled on pillows and blankets. Who cares if it was still 90 degrees outside! And what's a backyard movie night without the snacks? We had Cottontale cotton candy - I'm partial to the Shimmering Champagne - and popcorn from The After-party Sweet Shop. Can we take a minute to appreciate this popcorn? It puts movie theatre popcorn to shame. Clearly we couldn't choose just one. Taste of Rainbow was the clear favorite of the kids, as well as the icing on the cake. The real winner in my book though, was the peanut butter cup. So.good. We set up a drink station next to the snacks and waited for the sun to go down.

It was such a fun night, and so easy to set up. The best part is that it was such a treat for the kids, and is totally doable again. I can totally see a Bachelor watch party happening out here, or football watch parties. This could be a romantic date night in - no masks required!

As Siskel & Ebert would say, I give it two thumbs up.
